Research on Photographers

Mario Testino
  • Born in Peru, then moved to London in 1976. His work has been featured in magazines such as Vogue and Vanity Fair. He has an official website to showcase his work which ranges from advertisement to magazine covers to art exhibition shots. He has also photographed most of the royal family, actresses and musicians. He has contributed to the imagery of leading fashion houses such as Burberry, Gucci and Versace. Examples of his work:

  • In 2002, The National Portrait Gallery in London showcased his exhibition 'Portraits' which quickly became the second most most successful exhibit. People were able to enjoy to browse through 120 colour and black and white images of the world's most beautiful people through Mario's camera lens.
"Don't go to this show if you want to see art. It's OK, Hello and Vogue morphed into one vast, rich and fleshy fantasy. Walk down the corridor to the John Kobal Portrait Awards 2001 display if you want great photography that will move you. Here are the faces of the rest of us - not the rich, not the famous or the pretty."  - Source

Gomillion & Leupold
  • Stephen Gomillion and Dennis Leupold began working together in 2006 in New York City, both sharing the same passion for photography. Stephen has a Brazillian backround and Dennis was born in Germany, the pair have resided in NYC ever since.
  • They have an official blog and website, showcasing the best of their work together. They have photographed a various amount of celebrities, fashion icons, men, musicians, beauty models and even for advertising purposes. They have been responsible for creating album/single cover for popular artists in the music industry such as: Cher Lloyd, Jennifer Lopez, Miguel and NE-YO.
  • The reason why they caught my attention was down to the fact that they work with people who are well known, they produce quality pieces of work, and could most likely influence the way my magazine looks regarding the way they photograph Celebrities from the genre that I have chosen. Examples of their work:

Conclusion:

  • The ideas that I would like to take from the two photographers that I have researched is how the model is placed on the page, and the space awareness between the text and the image. Not only that, I will take into account of how they have edited the images E.G. Hue and Saturation of the image to make it look more softer. I think that I will have to put the image on my magazine cover in an edited from to relate to my theme.
